Wearing your GoBe U should be a comfortable experience, but in rare cases, some users may experience skin irritation or an allergic reaction. This article outlines the possible causes and steps you can take to prevent or reduce discomfort.
Why Does Irritation Occur?
Approximately 5–7% of users, especially those with sensitive skin, may experience irritation when using wearable devices. Reactions can vary from mild redness to itching or discomfort, and can be caused by a number of factors:
Cosmetic products: Moisturizers, oils, or other cosmetics under the sensor may interact with the skin or device materials.
Skin conditions or markings: Tattoos, scars, inflammation, or broken skin under the sensor can trigger a reaction.
Individual sweat composition: In some cases, the natural acidity or salt level in sweat can contribute to irritation.
Moisture build-up: Wearing the device immediately after a workout or shower can leave moisture trapped under the band, irritating the skin.
Material sensitivity: Though rare, some users may have a reaction to materials used in the device.
Materials Used in GoBe U
GoBe U is made from hypoallergenic materials designed to minimize skin reactions:
Bioimpedance sensor surface – Titanium
Optical heart rate sensor – Polycarbonate plastic
Casing – ABS plastic with hypoallergenic coating
Wristband – Silicone
Metal clasp – Anodized aluminum
Despite this, some individuals may still experience individual skin reactions, which are not necessarily caused by the material itself but by the body’s response to prolonged contact or moisture.
What to Do If Irritation Appears
If you notice redness, itchiness, or any signs of irritation:
1. Remove the Device
Take off the GoBe U and wash the affected area gently with warm water and mild soap.
2. Clean the Device
Use a soft cloth, mild soap, or alcohol-based wipe to clean the back of the device, especially the sensor area that touches your skin. Make sure the device is fully dry before wearing it again.
3. Adjust the Wearing Position
Try wearing the band on the opposite wrist. Alternating wrists every few days can give your skin time to recover.
You can also shift the device slightly up or down your arm, or rotate it to the inner side of your wrist. This helps reduce prolonged contact with the same patch of skin.
4. Avoid Skincare Products Under the Device
Refrain from applying lotions, creams, or oils under the device, as they may trap moisture and irritants between the band and your skin.
5. Maintain Regular Cleaning
Keeping the device clean helps reduce the buildup of sweat, residue, and other skin irritants that can cause discomfort over time.
If the irritation continues despite following these steps, we recommend taking a break from wearing the device until the skin heals fully. Once the skin is healthy again, try reintroducing the device with the above precautions in place.
